Police investigate shooting

Suffolk police are investigating a Thursday shooting that left one person injured and are seeking a man wanted on multiple charges in relation to it.

The shooting was reported at 3:26 p.m. Police responded to Sentara Obici Hospital, where an adult male had been transported by acquaintances due to a gunshot wound, according to a city press release.

Preliminary investigation found that the incident occurred at a residence in the 300 block of Gloucester Street in the South Suffolk neighborhood, according to the press release.

The victim was airlifted from Obici to another hospital for treatment. He was identified as 28-year-old Kevon J. Artis, of Suffolk. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to the release.

Warrants have been secured for 28-year-old Gary Lee Legette, of Suffolk, on charges of aggravated malicious wounding, three counts of attempted malicious wounding, shoot, stab, cut or wound, shooting from a vehicle, shooting into an occupied building, discharging a firearm in public with injury and eight counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Legette is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, 140 to 145 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. His last known address is the 200 block of Cedar Street in Suffolk. He is known to frequent Norfolk, Newport News, Hampton and North Carolina. He may be operating a 2001 Mercedes Benz C300, two-door, silver in color, with Virginia tags VPJ-2140.

Legette should be considered armed and dangerous, according to the release.
