The Lady Bulldogs defeated Lake Taylor High School 50-43 on Friday night to take the Conference 17 championship game.

King’s Fork High School’s strong comeback effort helped lead them to the championship. The Lady Bulldogs were down as many as 16 points in the championship game but found a way to fight back.

“We started off slow,” Lady Bulldogs coach Maurice Fofana said. “I think we may have assumed that they were going to lay down. Once we dug ourselves in the hole, we started to play. I was happy with the win.”

Going through a little adversity doesn’t hurt a team, but the Lady Bulldogs want to be control of as much as they can for as long as they can.

Amesha Miller led the way with 19 points and 13 rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs now hold a 2-1 record in the season series for this year. Miller was also the recipient of the Conference 17 Player of the Year award to go along with a unanimous spot on the all-conference first team.

“It feels great,” Miller said. “I’m not satisfied. We still have work to do. My goal was just to go out every game and play as hard as I could and see what that got me.”

Along with Miller, Nylah Young and Cydney Nichols made the first team. Neecole Brown made the second team.

“Our kids work hard,” Fofana said. “They do just about everything they can do. They work hard on the floor, and it pays off for them.”

“We all have been playing together for years now,” Miller said about her teammates. “We have been playing team ball all season long, which has led to all the recognition.”

Fofana made it clear to his team after the victory that it is on to the next task, which is regional play.

The Lady Bulldogs’ first game of regional play will be on Tuesday, when they take on Grafton High School. The game will be at King’s Fork and will start at 7 p.m. Grafton currently has a 16-8 record. They recently lost to Heritage High School in the Conference 18 championship.
