King’s Fork High School advanced to the Conference 17 championship game after an 87-48 win over Great Bridge High School in the semifinals.

The Lady Bulldogs will face off against Lake Taylor High School in the Conference 17 championship game after defeating Great Bridge Wednesday night. King’s Fork and Lake Taylor are the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively.

Amesha Miller led the way with 20 points while Cydney Nichols added 15 points. Alexis Wethington added 11 points as well. Miller was welcomed into the 1,000-rebounds club, to her surprise. She has grabbed 1,000 rebounds for her career, with more to add the longer the Lady Bulldogs continue to play.

“I was surprised. I did not know anything about it,” Miller said. “That definitely is a big accomplishment for me. Throughout high school, I have taken pride in rebounding and doing other things when I don’t have the ball, so knowing that I have 1,000 for my career definitely made me happy.”

The schools have split their previous two matchups this season. Lake Taylor won the first meeting at home on Jan. 20, while King’s Fork won on their home floor Feb. 6. The Lady Bulldogs believe that they have been playing good basketball lately and could be poised to add the conference tournament championship along with their regular season championship. But even if they lose Friday, they still have an automatic berth in the regional tournament.

“We have been playing hard from start to finish,” Miller said. “We want to keep our win streak alive.”

King’s Fork will face Lake Taylor in the Conference 17 championship Friday at 6 p.m. The game will be at King’s Fork and will be the first of two championship games hosted by the Bulldogs on Friday. Shortly after the Lady Bulldogs play, Deep Creek and Lake Taylor will face off in the Conference 17 boys’ championship game.
