Lakeland High School’s wrestling team had two wrestlers place at 3A East regional tournament last weekend.

Lakeland’s Ziquan Edwards and Tut Harville both placed at regionals for the Cavs last Saturday. Edwards placed third at 145 and will advance to states, while Harville placed seventh at 152 and will be an alternate. It is the second year in a row Lakeland has had a state qualifier.

Harville was also the 152-pound Conference 27 champion prior to making it to regionals. Edwards placed second in the Conference 27 finals at 145. He then went on to defeat the wrestler he lost to in the Conference 27 finals to place third at regionals.

“I was very pleased with how the guys have wrestled,” Lakeland wrestling coach Nathan Hoffman said. “We had some first-year wrestlers who have made progress and have finished well. I’m looking forward to how we finish at states.”

Lakeland will have three seniors graduating, including Edwards and Harville, but Hoffman is confident about what he will have returning next year.

“I’m filling some weight classes, and some kids will be back next year,” Hoffman said. “Even though both my kids that qualified for states are seniors, I feel I have some really good quality coming back to keep us competitive.”

State competition for Lakeland will be from Feb. 16-18 in Salem.
