Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast on Feb. 4 recognized Suffolk resident Elizabeth Alston with an appreciation pin for her exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Alston was recognized for her service and accomplishments during the Adult Awards Luncheon held in their honor following the annual council meeting at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton.

Alston holds numerous roles as a Girl Scout volunteer. She is a leader of Girl Scout Troop 357 and, in this role, serves as a guide for girls as they earn badges, make a difference in the community, explore the great outdoors and so much more.

For the past three years, Alston has coordinated bi-annual encampments for Suffolk Girl Scouts, organized activities and coordinated facilitators. She also mentors members of the Girl Advisory Board, made up of teen Girl Scouts in Suffolk, and assists girls who are in the process of earning top awards in Girl Scouts, including the Gold Award.

“She always puts the girls first,” said Aimee Downie, a fellow Girl Scout volunteer. “She brings Girl Scouting to life for so many girls, and I think that it is her enthusiasm that keeps some of our older Girl Scouts returning each year.”
