Kirkby earns doctorate at Ga. Tech
Justin Kirkby of Suffolk has earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Operations Research from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.
Kirkby was among approximately 3,200 undergraduate and graduate students who received degrees during Georgia Tech’s 252nd Commencement exercises Dec. 16 and 17 at the McCamish Pavilion.
Saxby awarded Gold Stars
Brandon Saxby of Suffolk was awarded Gold Stars by The Citadel for earning a grade point ratio of 3.7 or higher during the 2016 fall semester.
Students that achieve Gold Star recognition are also placed on The Citadel’s dean’s list.
Dean’s list recognition is given to cadets registered for 12 or more semester hours and whose grade point average is 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester’s work.
Durand named to LMU list
Julianna Durand of Suffolk earned dean’s list recognition for the fall 2016 semester at Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee.
To be placed on the dean’s list, the student must be a full-time undergraduate and have a 3.5 grade point average for the semester.
Durand is a sophomore, veterinary health medicine major at LMU.
JMU graduates six from Suffolk
James Madison University has announced the following students from Suffolk who graduated during the Dec. 17 commencement exercises:
Jennifer Asbell, who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in media arts and design;
Guy Stewart, who graduated cum laude with a degree in biology;
Ashley Talbot, who graduated cum laude with a degree in nursing;
Kasey Askew, who graduated cum laude with a degree in nursing;
Andrew Dates, who graduated with a degree in engineering;
And Taylor Stuck, who graduated with a degree in theatre and dance.
JMU names new students
James Madison University has welcomed new enrollees from Suffolk for the spring 2017 semester. The new enrollees include students who have transferred to JMU, as well as freshmen. Among them are the following:
Lauren Joyner, whose major is health sciences;
Samantha Coontz, whose major is nursing;
And Madison Norton, whose major is nursing.
Waters makes Georgia State list
Kanika Waters of Suffolk was named to the dean’s list for fall 2016 at Georgia State University.
To be eligible for the dean’s list, degree-seeking students with a minimum Georgia State cumulative GPA of 2.0 must earn a 3.5 GPA for the semester and complete at least nine semester hours of academic credit with no incompletes.
Mary Baldwin names honors list
Lashae Wade of Suffolk was named to the fall 2016 honors list at Mary Baldwin University.
Students named to the Honors List earned grade point averages of 3.75 to 4.00. To be eligible, a student must be a degree candidate and must have earned at least 12 semester hours for the grading period.
