Hunter Ward was awarded his Eagle Scout award recently at a ceremony held at Ebenezer Methodist Church in Eclipse.

Hunter has been in scouting for the past 10 years, beginning his scouting career in Pack 89 as a Tiger Cub.

He has earned 56 merit badges and has served in consecutive leadership positions in Troop 16, including as a Senior Patrol Leader. He is currently Junior Assistant Scoutmaster of the troop.

Hunter attended the 2013 National Scout Jamboree and visited the Philmont Scout Ranch, and he plans to attend the Florida Sea Base Live Aboard program this summer.

He has earned scouting’s religious award, the 50-Miler award and the Arrow of Light, and he is a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow.

For his Eagle Scout project, Hunter helped the Nansemond Indian Tribe start their Mattanock Town Village in Chuckatuck by planning and leading his troop in constructing the first two authentic Indian longhouses and a lean-to work shelter.

This project was instrumental in getting other members of his Hawk Patrol to plan additional Eagle Scout projects at Mattanock Town.

Virginia House of Delegates member S. Chris Jones was the guest speaker for the Eagle ceremony. Jones, who was also the guest speaker at the Eagle ceremony 30 years ago for Hunter’s father, Cubmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Jeff Ward, presented a Virginia flag that had been flown over the Virginia capital building and a proclamation recognizing Hunter’s achievement.
