Doris Jean Hedgebeth Gomer passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2017. at Nansemond Pointe. Doris was born on April 2, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Claude and Susie Scott Hedgebeth. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Bob Gomer, as well as sisters, Eloise Vick and Odelle Holland, brother, Claude Hedgebeth Jr., and son-in-law, Fred Silcox.

Mrs. Gomer was a member of Oxford Methodist Church and was a past Den Mother for Pack 1. She graduated from Holland High School in 1948 and remained close to many of her classmates, gathering yearly to reminisce. She was a strong, kind and loving wife and mother and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her sons, Lyndsey Gomer and wife, Carol, Scott Gomer, Paul Gomer, all of Suffolk; daughters, Susan Silcox, of Chesapeake, Debbie Gwaltney and husband, Richard, Leigh Ann Graham and husband, Danny, of Suffolk; grandchildren, Michael Gomer, Will Gomer and wife, Tiffany, Wesley Gwaltney and wife, Jessica, Matthew Gwaltney and wife, Stephanie, Claudia Graham, Olivia Graham, Daniel Gomer, Joey and Kristen Mehalko, Brian Gomer, Steven Banton and wife, Amber; great-grandchildren, Baileah, Anna, Alaina, Josh, Kelsey, Nick, A.J. and Madison.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, with burial to follow at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Condolences may be offered at www.RWBakerFH.com.
