King’s Fork High School’s boys’ basketball team took on Hertford County out of North Carolina last Saturday at home and were able to get a win.

The Bulldogs hosted Hertford County for their showcase. The game resulted in a 63-56 win for the Bulldogs, and it was their second win in a row after defeating Wilson High School the night before. Even though the Bulldogs pulled out a win, coach Josh Worrell feels that the team could have been a bit more consistent.

“We played well enough to win. I don’t think we played great,” Worrell said. “We didn’t play to our strengths as much as we should have. At times we played well defensively, and at times we didn’t.”

Raemaad Wright had a big night for the Bulldogs, as he put up 24 points and grabbed 21 rebounds to go along with three blocks. One might see those stats and think Wright had a dominant game, but Worrell feels that the senior could have played even better and finished the game with even bigger numbers.

“He could have easily had 35 or 40 points. He just has to continue to make shots around the rim,” Worrell said. “I demand and expect a lot from him, so I always want him to be better.”

The win improved the Bulldogs to 14-5 on the season. As they enter the last stretch of the season, the Bulldogs feel they are playing well after their last two wins.

“If we can continue to just stay focused every possession, I think we can be a very good team,” Worrell said. “We want to continue to fine-tune some things and make sure everyone is on the same page with everything that we do. At this point in the season, it’s practice then play, so we have to make sure we know others’ tendencies and how to capitalize on them.”

The Bulldogs were in agreement with their coach’s plan to tweak and polish a few things so that they can play the best they can.

“We have been playing great basketball, but we have to make adjustments as a team to get to where we need to be,” Wright said. “That’s a major key when it comes to winning basketball games around this time of year.”

“We are playing good but I think we can play even better,” the Bulldogs’ James Hatton said. “We just have to buy in and get it down.”

King’s Fork will face off against Deep Creek High School at home Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
