Chowan University honors students

Five Honors College members and one faculty member received individual awards during the annual Honors College Student Association Awards Dinner held at John’s Seafood in November. Several awards were given, including some to Suffolk natives.

The Veritas Lux Mea Award recognizes exceptional contribution to the success of the Honors College Student Association. This was received by Calvin Bowe, of Suffolk, a senior criminal justice major.

The Faculty Award recognizes a faculty member for exceptional dedication to Honors College members through teaching, advising and mentoring. This year, Timothy Hayes, of Suffolk, assistant professor of English, was the recipient.

The Outstanding Honors College Awards were presented to members of each class in recognition of academic achievement, service to the university, and contribution to the Honors College Program and Honors College Student Association.

The Outstanding Honors College Senior Award went to Calvin Bowe.

The Outstanding Honors College Freshman Award went to Naiyhani Iman Etheridge, a freshman graphic communications major.

The 2016-2017 Honors College Student Association Executive Committee members were presented with certificates of appreciation for their devoted service and faithful leadership. Bowe is the public relations officer on the executive committee.

Eighteen Honors College seniors were recognized during the awards dinner. Each was presented with a keychain with Chowan University and the Honors College Student Association engraved on it.

Among them were Calvin Bowe and Christopher Lee Rodgers, a senior exercise science major, both of Suffolk.

 

Chowan University announces fall 2016 honors

 Chowan University has officially announced the President’s List and Dean’s List honorees for Fall ’16. President’s List winners are full-time students who have accomplished a grade point average of 3.8 or better for the semester. Dean’s List winners have accomplished a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.79 for the semester. This distinction will become part of their official record.

Hardiman inducted into honor society

The Psi Chi Chapter of Order of Omega at Chowan University recently inducted seven new members, including one from Suffolk.

Samara Hardiman of Suffolk, Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority, was among the inductees.

Order of Omega is a leadership honor society for members of fraternity and sorority organizations.

It recognizes juniors and seniors who have exemplified high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, involvement within their respective organization and within the fraternity or sorority, campus, and local community.

Members are selected from the top 3 percent of students at each institution. To date, more than 500 chapters have been chartered throughout North America, each sharing the common goal of recognizing the many outstanding student leaders at their institution.

 

Lloyd named to Rhodes honor roll

Suffolk resident Forrest B. Lloyd was named to the Rhodes College honor roll for the 2016 fall semester.

To qualify for the honor roll, a student must be enrolled in at least 16 credit hours of academic work and must achieve a semester grade point average of 3.85 or better.

Lloyd is a graduate of Shenndoah Valley Christian Academy.

 

Taylor named to Miami University list

Wesley Taylor was named to the dean’s list at Miami University in Ohio for the 2016 fall semester.

Miami University students who achieved a 3.5 or better grade point average for first semester 2016-2017 have been named to the dean’s list recognizing academic performance.

Taylor, from Suffolk, is majoring in architecture.

 

Houston named to Baylor list

More than 3, 900 Baylor University students, including one from Suffolk, were named to the dean’s academic honor roll for the 2016 fall semester.

To be named to the dean’s list, a student must be an undergraduate with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours.
Suffolk’s Victoria Nicole Houston, a student in Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business, was among those to make the list.

 

Five named to W&M dean’s list

Five Suffolk students were recently named to the dean’s list at the College of William & Mary for the fall 2016 semester.
Abdelrahman Hussein Aboulatta, Sara Ann Barlow, Amelia Jo Corl, Logan Reece Flurry and Kendall Katherine Schaeffer Weber were among those to earn the distinction.
In order to achieve dean’s list status, a full-time degree seeking undergraduate student must take at least 12 credit hours and earn a 3.6 Quality Point Average during the semester.
JMU announces fall dean’s list

James Madison University has announced that the following students from Suffolk made the dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester.

Tayler Pearl, who is scheduled to graduate in 2020 and is majoring in accounting

Edward Marshall, who is scheduled to graduate in 2019 and is majoring in athletic training

Macy Mears, who is scheduled to graduate in 2018 and is majoring in finance

Brittany Neilan, who is scheduled to graduate in 2020 and is majoring in health sciences

Alexis Metzgar, who is scheduled to graduate in 2018 and is majoring in hospitality management

William Raines, who is scheduled to graduate in 2019 and is majoring in industrial design

Thomson named to Marquette dean’s list

Delaney Thomson of Suffolk has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisc. Thomson is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in advertising.
W.Va. Wesleyan names academic achievers

West Virginia Wesleyan College has announced that two students from Suffolk have been named to the president’s list and the dean’s list for the 2016 fall semester.

The president’s list requires a 4.0 GPA with a minimum of 12 earned hours for the semester. The dean’s list requires students to earn a grade point average of 3.5-3.9 in 12 or more semester hours.

Receiving academic recognitions from Suffolk were Hunter Lowe, dean’s list, and Kelsey O’Leary, president’s list.
