King’s Fork High School alumnus and Suffolk native Ryan Kluck is on a championship-winning team in James Madison University, which recently won the NCAA Division I Football Championship.

The JMU Dukes defeated Youngstown State University 28-14 last Saturday in Texas. The championship marked the Dukes’ second in school history. JMU went through the season and finished the season with a 14-1 record.

Kluck, a freshman and a 2016 KFHS graduate, was able to be a part of a national championship team in his first year. He was the man behind center for the Bulldogs for his last two years after switching from receiver. Kluck transitioned back to receiver in his first year at JMU. In his last two high school seasons, he was able to help lead the Bulldogs to back-to-back playoff appearances.

Kluck’s older brother, Mark, is one of the equipment managers for the JMU football program.

To reach the national championship game, JMU knocked off 2016’s national champion, North Dakota State, in the semifinal game, ending their five-year national championship run. JMU last won a national championship in 2004.

The university will hold a championship parade in Harrisonburg at 1 p.m. Saturday.
