Helen W. Hunnicutt, 97, passed away Jan. 8, 2017, in her home. She was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Surry County. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Emma McGuriman Hunnicutt. She was also preceded in death by her four brothers, Howard, Arthur, Thomas and Douglas Hunnicutt, and two sisters, Leo H. Addison and Doris H. Ellis. Survivors include a special nephew, Jim Hunnicutt and wife, Virginia, and several other nieces and nephews.

Ms. Hunnicutt went to Washington, D.C., in March of 1942 and worked for the federal government under U.S. Civil Service. She moved to the Pentagon in December 1942 when it opened and worked there the rest of her career. She retired in June of 1971 and moved in her house in Driver and lived there the rest of her life.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, with the Rev. Joseph Glazebrook officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
