Budding digital artists are firing up their computers and tablets to create the next IconiCon mascot for the Suffolk Public Library.

The annual IconiCon event, a gathering of science fiction, fantasy and comic fans, will take place at the North Suffolk Library on April 29, but the library is seeking submissions from the public now for the IconiCon mascot.

“We would love millions of entries,” said Ardith Ohka, team services supervisor for the Suffolk Public Library. “The more, the merrier.”

Last year’s IconiCon event was the first held by the Suffolk Public Library, and it was a success.

“We had hoped it would be huge, and it was,” Ohka said.

The library strives to have activities for all ages and all fandoms at the event, Ohka added.

“We try to have activities for everyone,” Ohka said. “We like to make it open to people who have never been to a ‘con’ and people who have been to hundreds.”

Like last year, there will be a trivia contest and cosplay contest at the event, as well as plenty of other activities.

But this year, the contests also start early with the digital art contest.

The contest is free, open to all ages and not limited to Suffolk residents.

Angie Sumner, marketing coordinator for the Suffolk Public Library, said images of the winning mascot will be featured far and wide. All of the marketing materials, including the event’s Facebook page, will have the image.

In addition, the winner of the contest will receive a Sensu artist brush and stylus.

All artwork for the contest must be submitted by Feb. 1. To submit artwork, post it on the Suffolk Public Library Facebook page or drop off a copy, printed or on a flash drive, at any library location.

All submissions must contain your name and contact information and indicate it is for the IconiCon digital art contest.

If selected, the artist must be able to provide a high-resolution digital file. Preferred file types include .ai, .eps and .psd. Other acceptable file types include .jpg, .png or vector PDF.
