Haiti missionary to speak at women’s conference

 A missionary to Haiti will be the special guest speaker at an upcoming women’s conference that will support her work in that developing nation.

Jackie Enlow will speak during the conference on Jan. 15 at Liberty Spring Christian Church.

Enlow, a Pittsburgh, Pa., native, first went to Haiti last March with a college friend who had taken many missions trips there. On that first trip, she felt the call to return.

“I felt the Lord urging me to come back for longer term,” Enlow said. “I came back home and moved there in the beginning of June.”

Enlow leads four different Bible studies each week in the town of Montrouis, Haiti. One takes place at her home with neighborhood kids. One takes place at an orphanage. One takes place in a nearby mountain town. And the last takes place among a church group of young adults.

Enlow said the Bible studies have grown since their beginnings.

“Obviously the Lord’s blessing them, because of the way that they’re growing,” Enlow said. Eleven children were baptized in October, she added.

“The Lord is moving, and that’s something I’ll definitely continue with,” she said.

The Bible study at the orphanage also includes feeding the children a meal purchased from local vendors to support local businesses, Enlow said.

Enlow also supports the Matthew 25 House, an elder care home run by the Supply & Multiply ministry started by the Liberty Spring pastor and his wife, Chris and Christina Surber.

“I go spend a lot of time with them and let them know they’re loved and cared about,” Enlow said. “I’m just there working alongside the Haitian community.”

Enlow said God worked quickly for her to be able to move to Haiti and start her ministry so quickly after being called.

“The Lord has opened up so quickly for me to just up and move there,” she said.

She said she will be discussing in more detail the call to the mission field during the conference and encouraging women in attendance to think about their own calling — whether it’s simply supporting missions, going for a short-term trip or thinking more longer-term.

“We’re all called,” she said. “We just have to pray. We all have a purpose, and we’re all called.”
