King’s Fork High School’s indoor track and field team had its first Conference 17 meet of the season Wednesday. The girls’ team placed third, and the boys placed fourth.

It was the team’s third meet of the school year and the first of the calendar year, but the Bulldogs had some impressive individual finishes among the six-team field.

On the boys’ side, Shamond Smith placed first in the 1,000-meter event with a time of 2:42.42. Nasir Davis placed fifth in the 55-meter dash but placed third in the 300-meter dash with a time of 37.39. Jack Van Straten placed third in the 3,200-meter event. Both the boys’ had girls’ teams placed well in the long-distance events. King’s Fork is known mostly for its sprinters, so to be able to do well in long distance events is something new for King’s Fork.

King’s Fork will compete in the Suffolk Invitational on Friday at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton. Events will start at 11 a.m. and continue on through the day.
