Three displaced in fire

Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews responded Saturday evening to a residential structure fire in the 1800 block of Nansemond Parkway.
Emergency Communications received the call at 9:03 p.m. advising of the fire in the brick ranch, and the first units were on scene at 9:11 p.m, according to a city press release. The residents had evacuated prior to the arrival of firefighters.
Captain John Gray advised that upon arrival crews found heavy fire in the kitchen and smoke conditions throughout the residence. The fire was called under control at 9:24 p.m., according to the release.
There were no injuries. Three adults have been displaced as a result of the fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire was determined to be unattended cooking.
Nansemond Parkway between Progress Road and Woodland Trail was blocked in both directions, according to the release. The Suffolk Police Department provided traffic control at the scene.
