Clifton Lee Gwaltney Sr.

Clifton Lee Gwaltney Sr. of 2210 Florida Ave., Suffolk, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016.

He was a native of Suffolk and predeceased by his parents, John Henry Clark and Erma Gwaltney, and a son, Clifton L. Gwaltney Jr.

Clifton was an employee of Planters division of Kraft Foods and retired after more than 40 years of dedicated and faithful service. He was a member of First Baptist Church Mahan Street, Suffolk, where he was past chairman of the Deacon Board, a board member of the Hoffler Home and a Trustee Board member of the church.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Gwaltney; three daughters, Kathleen Beale (Robert), of Hampton, Veronica Gwaltney Hughes (Darrell), of Suffolk, and Devieta Moore (Bishop Darin Moore), of North Carolina; a son, Barron Dwight Gwaltney, of Portsmouth; sisters, Joan Wilson (Astor), of Hampton, Barbara Hampton, of North Carolina, Betty Jean Green, of Arizona; a brother, Roy Clark, of Franklin; nine grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at the First Baptist Church, 112 Mahan St., Suffolk, at noon. Burial will be in Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery.
