The King’s Fork boys’ and girls’ basketball teams rolled past Grassfield to continue their hot starts on Friday.

The Lady Bulldogs were on the road against Grassfield and took care of business. A slow start didn’t hold the Lady Bulldogs back as they won 76-36, moving to 6-0 on the season.

“I think we came out and kind of underestimated them a bit,” Lady Bulldogs coach Maurice Fofana said. “Our first half was slow, but we came out and made some adjustments and turned the game around.”

At halftime, the Lady Bulldogs were only up by 10. Returning from the locker room, they turned up the pressure.

Amesha Miller led the way for King’s Fork, with 23 points and 17 rebounds. Nylah Young added 16 points.

Fofana likes where his team is at this point of the season. Last year, the Lady Bulldogs got off to a 20-0 start, but Fofana is seeing things done differently this year than in the previous year.

“We are showing improvement,” he said. “From game to game, we are doing something different. It’s like we are taking a piece of the puzzle and putting a new piece in every time we play. Hopefully, when we get into our stiffer competition, we will have the puzzle put together and won’t have to add anything.”

The boys’ team completed the sweep against Grassfield. Their 64-45 victory moves them to 5-1 on the season, with their only loss coming in an overtime game.

James Hatton had 18 points for the Bulldogs. Raemaad Wright had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

From the start of the game, the Bulldogs provided the intensity needed to keep their winning streak going. Last week they showed a willingness to get off to a fast start, which helped the Bulldogs beat both Lakeland and Grassfield by good margins.

Also, with the Bulldogs winning big, they are able to get more players involved throughout the process, which will help in the long run.

“We have been playing good, and we all have the same mission,” Hatton said. “Coach (Josh) Worrell and the coaching staff pushes us every day to get better. It’s really paying off for us.”

The holiday break is approaching, and the Bulldogs feel if they continue to play well, they can go into the new year strong.

The Bulldogs will play Wilson at home on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
