Clifton Lee Gwaltney Jr.

Clifton Lee Gwaltney Jr. of East Washington Street transitioned Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at his residence.

He was a native of Suffolk and the son of Clifton L. Gwaltney Sr. and Sylvia R. Gwaltney.

Clifton was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School and retired in 2015 from Lipton Tea after 40 years of dedicated and faithful service. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he was in the Men’s Choir, Sunday school, Mass Choir, Awareness Club and Men’s Ministry, and he sang with the Pearly Gates Singing Group.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife Sarah Pauline Gwaltney; two daughters, Kesia Gwaltney of Richmond and Rhonda Hines (Randall) of Suffolk; two sons, Ronald Holland Jr. (Rosella) of Chesapeake and Travis Collins of Suffolk; three sisters, Kathleen Beale (Robert) of Newport News, Veronica Gwaltney of Suffolk and Devieta Moore (Bishop Darin Moore) of New York; brother, Dwight Gwaltney of Portsmouth; four grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

A celebration of life will be held at noon Tuesday at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 2427 East Washington St. Dr. Anthony Copeland will deliver the eulogy.
