Seven people were injured in two separate multi-vehicle crashes on Friday that tied up roads for hours. Fortunately, none of the injuries was considered life-threatening, according to city press releases.

The first crash happened just before noon in the 8500 block of Whaleyville Boulevard. Four people were taken to hospitals.

The crash involved a Chevrolet Equinox and a Windstar Minivan, according to the release. The driver of the Chevrolet suffered minor injuries and was taken by ground ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Three people occupied the minivan. They suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to the release. Two were airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, one via Nightingale and one via Med Flight 1, according to the press release. The third occupant was taken to Sentara Norfolk General by ground ambulance.

Whaleyville Boulevard was closed at Freeman Mill Road in both directions while wreckers worked to clear the vehicles.

Later, three people were injured in a crash at the intersection of Route 460 and Kings Fork Road just before 3 p.m. It involved a Dodge Caravan, a commercial box truck and a Suffolk Public Utilities truck.

The driver of the Caravan was taken by ground ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A passenger in the Caravan was taken to Sentara Obici Hospital. The driver of the Suffolk Public Utilities vehicle was also taken to Sentara Obici Hospital.

A passenger in the Public Utilities vehicle and the driver of the commercial box truck were not injured.

The roadway was closed for about an hour, according to the release.

The causes of both crashes remain under investigation, according to the city.
