One awesome moustache

You might think that the high-stakes world of mosquito control leaves little room in a life for glamour.

Suffolk’s mosquito control superintendent Charles Abadam would politely disagree.

Abadam came home from Pittsburgh this fall with a new title, one that hipsters around the nation can consider with only a sense of awe. Abadam was the winner of the 2016-2017 Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year Award.

It’s a big title for the biggest honor of the year for men with big ‘staches. Abadam’s carefully coiffed facial hair may not be the biggest you’ve ever seen, but it makes up for volume with its sheer panache. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better handlebar in a bike shop or a curlier goatee in a barnyard full of goats.

In a press release notifying us of the honor earlier this year, a Professor Ivan Manchin Jr., ESQ, who identified himself as “director of the Anthony Weiner Email Server Investigative Investigations with The American Mustache Institute” shared Abadam’s name, pointed out that this was “the most important election of the Fall” and signed off with a simple “You’re welcome.”

Truly, we can hardly thank Professor Manchin enough for the tip. We love sharing stories about what makes Suffolk great, and Abadam’s hairy honor is absolutely one of those things.

Next time your 14-year-old son stands in front of the mirror stroking his peach fuzz, remind him that in America, folks can grow up to be just about anything — maybe even the Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year.

We could not be more proud to call ourselves Suffolkians.
