Both Lakeland High School basketball teams lost to Oscar Smith High School Friday night.

The Lady Cavs were at home and lost 50-31 to the Lady Tigers. The Cavs were on the road against Oscar Smith and were defeated 71-41.

After the first quarter in the boys’ game, the score was 11-11, which was encouraging for the Cavs. But Oscar Smith blew the game open in the second quarter, scoring 24. Lakeland fought back throughout the game to get within 15 points, but ultimately the Tigers were too much.

“Even though the score was what it was, I saw good things in our offensive execution,” Cavs coach Clint Wright said. “I would like to see more shots made. Our defensive rotations were solid with Oscar Smith being a large team.”

Lakeland’s boys’ basketball team is young, and Wright believes that playing more talented teams will allow them to get better in the process. On Friday, Wright played everyone on his roster, hoping that experience will be good for his team in the weeks ahead.

Lakeland’s basketball teams will play Great Bridge High School on Tuesday. The boys will be on the road, while the girls will play at home. Both game times is set for 7 p.m.
