The NSA tennis team finished in the top four in the state this year, with Elvie Sellers and Allison Gottlieb earn all-state honors.
Sellers and Gottlieb are happy to have finished their careers with those honors. For Sellers, this is her fourth all-state selection.
“My senior season was a blast,” Gottlieb said. “We came out as one of the top four teams in the state for the third year in a row. The girls are my best friends on and off the court, so regardless of winning or losing, we were always laughing and enjoying the most of our last season together.”
Lady Saints tennis coach Sheryl Raulston is proud of her two players and the accolades they are receiving for their individual success.
“Seniors Elvie and Allison both had amazing tennis seasons this year,” Raulston said of her two seniors. “This all-state award recognizes both their singles and doubles accomplishments and records this season. This award is well deserved by both of them.”
Sellers has been No. 1 in singles and doubles for the past four years for the Lady Saints. She was a state finalist in 2013 and has been a state semifinalist in 2014 and 2015 as well as this year. In TCIS play, she has been first team all-conference in singles since 2014. In 2014 and 2015, she was second-team all-conference in doubles before she and Gottlieb were named first-team this season. Out of all her Division II conference matches, Sellers lost only once against Cape Henry while also going undefeated in her non-conference matches.
Gottlieb, along with Sellers, finished as a state finalist in 2013 and has been a semifinalist since then. This year, she was named TCIS first-team for doubles. She was No. 2 on the team in singles play and was No. 1 in doubles alongside Sellers.
“Winning all-state was truly rewarding,” Gottlieb said. “It’s an awesome way to cap off a great, hard fought season.”
