The Suffolk Golf Course will host its annual Toys for Tots Golf Tournament Dec. 3. The tournament is organized to collect toys so that every child in Suffolk can wake up to a toy under the tree on Christmas Day.
Tournament play begins with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Registration price for the tournament is $50, but if you bring a new, unwrapped toy, registration will only be $40. Participants have until Dec. 1 to register during business hours.
Previous years’ turnouts have been good, said Rick Crain of the Suffolk Golf Course. Last year, between 150-200 toys were donated at the event.
“The response has been quite good,” Crain said. “It’s for a good cause, and we always have a good event.”
Right now, the tournament has 45 golfers registered, with plenty of openings left. More than 60 players participated last year, and Crain hopes for an even better turnout this year.
After the tournament is over, the Salvation Army picks the toys up to have them distributed amongst kids in need. Anyone, even non-golfers, is welcome to bring a toy to the tournament.
“This has been one of our most popular events,” Crain said. “When you put on an event like this in December, you never know what the weather is going to do. We’ve been blessed with some very good weather, and we hope that continues.”
Those who are interested can register by contacting the Suffolk Golf Course at 539-6298. The registration fee covers golf, carts, range balls, lunch and awards, and top finishers will receive prizes.
