A couple of great Americans in Suffolk

To the editor:
On Nov. 8, Election Day, at approximately 8:40 a.m., I left my house, located about half a block from my voting precinct at Canaan Baptist Church.
Nansemond Parkway is a busy road, but I thought I could navigate it with my walker with no problem.
As a 78-year-old lady, I have a slow pace, but I was making good progress, with cars whizzing by me on the right. I thought they were all respectful and cognizant of me with the walker.
However, when one vehicle passed, the occupants saw me walking with the walker and stopped about 200 feet ahead. The lady got out, came back to me and asked me if I needed a ride.
I could have finished my walk, given time, but I told her that I would appreciate it.
So the gentleman and the lady drove east on the Parkway, turned around and then picked me up.
They asked what my destination was, and I told them I was going to the church to vote.
Lo and behold, they were Election Day volunteers, the Rev. Clifton Jenkins and his wife, Karen. They were on their way to deliver water to volunteers at various poll stations.
After I got into their vehicle, we went east on Nansemond Parkway, turned around and headed back to Canaan Church, where I cast my ballot.
My beloved angels, the Jenkinses, then returned me safely home.
What a couple of great Americans to meet on Election Day!
