A Suffolk man will spend 30 years in prison after heroin he distributed led to the death of a 27-year-old Chesapeake man.

Carlos A. Brown, 46, received the sentence in federal court Wednesday, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

He was indicted in May and pleaded guilty in July to one count of distribution of heroin resulting in death.

According to the statement of facts filed with the plea agreement, Brown sold heroin from his Portsmouth residence on County Street from June to November 2015.

On Nov. 18, 2015, Brown contacted one buyer describing his heroin as a “missile.” Shortly thereafter, Brown distributed that heroin.

He was aware several of his customers had overdosed but sought to obtain more of that same batch of heroin, according to the press release. On Nov. 21, 2015, 27-year-old Ryan Wilson of Chesapeake was found dead having used Brown’s heroin.

Brown continued to sell heroin even after learning of Wilson’s death, according to the court documents.

A law enforcement team conducted interviews with sources as well as physical and electronic surveillance. The team also made four controlled purchases of heroin and fentanyl from Brown before they arrested him on April 21, 2016.
