Suffolk Art League issues call for artists

The Suffolk Art League’s Annual Juried Exhibition will be held Nov. 19 to Dec. 11 at the Suffolk Art Gallery, 118 Bosley Ave.

This exhibit is open to artists working in any medium. Artist may submit up to three works for jurying.

This year’s juror will be Michael Pierce. A Virginia native, Pierce graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and his artwork has been exhibited and collected widely throughout the United States and abroad for more than 50 years. He has been active in the Richmond-area arts community, serving on a number of boards, curating exhibitions and volunteering as a docent at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. In addition, he teaches drawing and painting at John Tyler Community College and the Visual Arts Center.

Pierce will select the artwork to be included in the exhibition as well as the award winners. This year, there will be more than $2,500 in awards presented, including a $500 first prize that also includes the opportunity for a one-person exhibit at the Suffolk Art Gallery in 2017.

Artists wishing to submit artwork for jurying must bring their work to the Suffolk Art Gallery, 118 Bosley Ave., on Sunday, Nov. 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. or Monday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is an entry fee of $15 for art league members or $45 for non-members.
