Interesting spin to yoga

River Yoga, a North Suffolk-based yoga studio, introduced an interesting approach to the typically serene art form. The studio, located at 3575 Bridge Road, introduced its first Glow Yoga class around mid-October.

The studio room was dark and only had glow sticks and participants’ neon shirts as the sources of light. Additionally, there was “gentle rave music” playing in the background, as defined by studio co-owner Sue Blei.

“It’s something different and fun,” Blei said.

Sue and her husband, Michael, have been in business for more than two years. However, Sue has been practicing yoga since 2001.

“I’m a nurturer by nature,” Sue said. “I want to bring the big healing power of yoga to more people.”

The couple hosted an additional Glow Yoga class on Halloween and plans to host more in the near future.

Participants and the owners liked the change but also said it was challenging.

“I like it because it’s good to always have a change in yoga,” said Brian Boutot, a participant.

“With the darkness, it’s harder to keep your balance.”

“We had a good time,” Michael said. “They come on board with whatever we do.”

“But, it is a very challenging class.”
