Lakeland High School football is ranked seventh in the 3A East VHSL weekly rankings and has been ranked in the top 10 for the last two weeks.
The Cavs have a current record of 5-4 and, with a win this Friday, can host a playoff game in the postseason.
“I’m happy for our kids and our program,” Cavs coach Kevin Knight said. “This a big accomplishment. Our coaches have been doing a heck of a job. This team only won two games last year, and for us to be ranked in the top seven is an accomplishment.”
The Cavs have clinched a playoff berth but can possibly solidify a home playoff game with a win over Nansemond River Friday night, a game Knight describes as a “playoff” game.
“This game Friday is big for us,” Knight said. “A win would put us in a great spot. It’s a lot on the line, and I think my guys will be ready.”
The Cavs are at home Friday against Nansemond River at 7 p.m.
