Nansemond River High School’s field hockey team had six players named to the all-conference teams, and coach Ali Dize was named coach of the year.

The Lady Warriors finished third in Conference 10 after a defeat to Menchville High School in the semifinals last week. Though the Lady Warriors weren’t able to make it to regionals, their talented team this year didn’t go unnoticed.

All three of the Lady Warriors captains — Ariana Samuel, Mackenzie Roach and Ashlyn Rogers — received first team all-conference honors. Sarah Rhiel, Karah Foster and Victoria Czuprynski all were selected to the second team. Allie Fischer received honorable mention.

“I’m excited that we get these awards, because we all work really hard during practices and games,” Samuel said of her team’s accomplishments. “We get to represent Nansemond River field hockey in a really good and competitive conference.”

“It’s always rewarding to be recognized for your hard work,” Roach said. “I play defense in the backfield, and I rarely score, but it’s reassuring to know that my hard work does not go unnoticed. It’s very motivational for us to keep up the good work and strive for better next year.”

The players were even more excited about the fact their head coach was also awarded for her hard work as well.

“Coach Ali is a great role model for us,” Samuel said. “It’s great that she gets rewarded for all the hard work that she commits to us in season and during the offseason.”

Four of Nansemond River’s all-conference nominees will be graduating this year. Rhiel, Rogers and Fischer will be returning next year. The Lady Warriors finished with a 12-5 record.
