The Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society’s annual Touch-a-Truck fundraiser is back for another ride.

This year is the fifth annual installment of the event. It’s the second year of having trick-or-treating at the event.

“It’s a wonderful family event that has been a big hit in the past,” said Barbara McPhail, a historical society volunteer. “Kids are encouraged to wear their little costumes and bring their trick-or-treat bag.”

McPhail said the event will raise money to support the Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum, where the event will be held.

Trucks on display will include fire and emergency vehicles, tow trucks, construction vehicles, tractor-trailers, utility trucks, the NutMobile, the Triple T Tumble Bus, the police command bus and Virginia Port Authority command bus, the Bookmobile and more.

The 1962 caboose on permanent display outside the train station also will be open for children to tour.

At each vehicle they visit, children will be able to get a treat to fill their bag. Popcorn also will be given away.

McPhail said 300 to 500 people typically visit throughout the day.

“It’s just a really nice day, and people get to visit the train station,” McPhail said. For many attendees of the event, it is their first time inside the station, she added.

Tickets are $5 each or four for $15. Children under 1 year old are free.

The event is located at 326 N. Main St. and will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Call the train station at 923-4750 for more information.
