Deaconess Dora Howell, 82, of Corinth Chapel Road, Suffolk, transitioned peacefully Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at Sentara Obici Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Elijah Howell, and three grandchildren.

She is survived by five sons, Alvin (Doris), Donald (Mildred), Lloyd, Lawrence and Jeffrey; five daughters, Evangelist Carolyn Cowans (Arthur), Sharon Howell, Elder Barbara Howell, Gloria Howell and Felicia Watson; one sister, Wilma Barbour (Jimmy); 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Ms. Howell’s visitation will take place from 3 to 6 p.m., and a wake service from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A home going celebration service will take place at 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, with Dr. Anthony Goodwyn officiating and interment at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery.
