Grace Burns Meacham

Grace Burns Meacham, 93, of Suffolk, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, in Sentara Obici Hospital. A native of Crittenden, Ark., she was a daughter of the late Clifton Curtis Burns and Annie Elizabeth (Bacot) Burns. She was predeceased by two children, Anne M. Epps and David L. Meacham; grandson, Curt Meacham; granddaughter, Lisa Johnson; and siblings, Lowrey, Julia, Edwin, Curtis and Gladys.
She was a member of First Baptist Church. She retired from General Electric and then was a prominent figure with the church for many years, as well as a longtime resident of the Kilby Shores neighborhood.
Survivors include a son, Curtis Meacham and wife, Charlotte, of Suffolk; a sister, Ann Bayley, of Jackson, Miss.; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with the Rev. Charles Thompson officiating. Interment will be private in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. Friends may join family for a visitation Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A special thank you to her Autumn Care Nursing Home family, who tended to her every need. Grace/Grandma/MawMaw will be missed by many, but especially by her granddaughter Beth Chabot, who spent countless time together with her.
