A car was destroyed and a garage was damaged in a fire Friday morning in the 1400 block of Shady Grove Lane.

The fire was reported at 4:28 a.m., according to a city press release. The first units arrived on scene at 4:35 a.m.

Battalion Chief Andre Durham said the Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed and extinguished the fire. The owner said he started the 2007 BMWi about 4 a.m. and shortly thereafter saw that he vehicle was on fire.

It was parked about six feet away from a detached garage, which sustained damage to the vinyl siding.

The fire was called under control at 4:42 a.m., and there were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.
