Warriors send four to regionals

The Nansemond River High School golf team sent four players to regionals last Monday and Tuesday.
The top two teams qualify for regionals, and the Warriors slightly missed the cut, placing third as a team. But Isiah Marquez, Jack Wolfe, Zach Martin and Jackson Lyons all qualified for regionals as individuals.
“It was really good that we were able to get four players to qualify for regionals,” said Marquez, the team’s number one player. “At the same time, it was a bit upsetting because our whole team could have qualified had we won by three strokes.”
This is Wolfe’s third year qualifying for regionals, and he will take his past two experiences and learn from them.
“I know I can’t over-think things when I am out there,” Wolfe said. “The last two years I didn’t do as well as I wanted to. Hopefully, this year is the year.”
Though golf is an individual sport, as a team, the Warriors want to make sure they are able to overcome mistakes and stay focused.
“We need to forget about the bad shots when we have them,” Marquez said. “We can’t dwell on every mistake and just keep pushing forward.”
Regionals for the Warriors will be at Newport News Golf Course at Deer Run 9 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 2 and 3.
