TowneBank made a donation of $15,000 to the Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast on Sept. 15.
Jerry Kent, senior vice-president and private banking officer, who works at the TowneBank offices in Suffolk, presented the gift during a presentation ceremony at the council’s headquarters, A Place for Girls, located in Chesapeake.
The gift will support the 2017 Girl Scout Cookie Centennial, celebrating 100 years of the Girl Scout Cookie Program, the nation’s largest financial literacy and entrepreneurship program for girls.
Through financial contributions and volunteerism, TowneBank has supported Girl Scouts for many years. It has funded previous Cookie Kickoffs and hosted the end-of-year celebration for Cookie CEOs — girls who sold at least 1,000 boxes of cookies.
TowneBank volunteers also have offered volunteer service hours at Girl Scout properties during United Way of South Hampton Roads Day of Caring and other community work days.
“It’s community friends like TowneBank and their commitment to philanthropy that help Girl Scouts deliver high quality programs in our community that foster the next generation of entrepreneurs,” Tracy Keller, the council’s CEO said in a press release.
