King’s Fork boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams played host to their rival opponent Nansemond River Tuesday night. The Lady Bulldogs got a win, 3-0, while the boys lost 3-1.

“It felt great to get that win,” Bulldogs’ girls’ volleyball player Cydney Nichols said. “I think we played well. We have gradually gotten better since the beginning of the season.”

Every game is important, but rival games add value. Each team wants to be the best in the city.

“We wanted to win that game more than anything,” Lady Bulldogs libero Lauryn Bailey said. “When it comes to our cross-town rivals, we do everything we can to win and do our best.”

Coach Robin Smith liked the way her Lady Warriors played but is looking forward to helping her team break some of their habits.

As for the King’s Fork boys’ volleyball team, coach Kevin Howell felt it was a winnable game for his team, but aside from the loss, he is glad his team is improving.

Nansemond River is at home next Tuesday against their other rival, Lakeland High School. The girls play following the boys at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sept. 27.
