All the shrimp you can eat.
Those six words are probably enough to catch the attention of many area residents, and two local community organizations hope they’ll provide just enough of an incentive to entice hundreds of people to head out to the Suffolk Executive Airport on Oct. 6, the first day of Peanut Fest, to enjoy one of the city’s premiere food-related events and, at the same time, help raise funds that will be used for a variety of causes and efforts in the city.
Shrimp Feast has a long history in Suffolk, along with many stalwart fans. Those fans will be pleased to know that the sponsoring organization — the Suffolk Ruritan Club — heard loud and clear that the club should return the feast to the days of an all-you-can-eat buffet.
This year’s feast will include shrimp, barbecue and all the fixin’s, along with entertainment and — an especially big deal for the first year that Peanut Fest will be charging a per-person entrance fee to the event whose site hosts Shrimp Feast — free admission to the festival.
The club takes the proceeds and use them for many events throughout the year, most notably the veterans’ appreciation that takes place every spring. The other donations go to organizations like Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, King’s Kids and more.
Aside from the limitless shrimp this year, another big change is that tickets will not be available at the gate. You should get yours now, while they’re still available.
Tickets are available for purchase at Bennett’s Creek Pharmacy, Virginia Commonwealth Bank, Line-X of Suffolk, Cross Realty, BB&T Bank on Route 58, Ricky and Roy’s, Mike Duman Auto Sales, Suffolk BBQ, Quality Cleaners, Xenith Bank, Citizen’s Bank in Windsor, Ricky’s Carts, Major Signs, Aamco Transmissions, City of Suffolk Tourism, Carts Unlimited and Grafic Trenz.
All-you-can-eat-shrimp. For our money, the only thing better would be all-you-can-eat crab legs. Hmmm. There’s a fundraiser there, somewhere.
