Coach Scottie Littles told his team before the game that they can’t go 10-0 without going 2-0. The Bulldogs (2-0) took that advice and handled business against Hickory (1-1).

“I’m just proud of my kids,” Littles said. “That is a tough environment to play in. Being able to go on the road and get a win was huge for us.”

Hickory (1-1) provided a harsh environment for the Bulldogs to play in. With their home crowd and band, the Bulldogs mentioned that it was hard to hear themselves at times. King’s Fork (2-0) was coming off a bye week last week, and it showed in the first half of the game.

At halftime, the score was only 10-7. It wasn’t until the second half that the Bulldogs started to pick up their tempo.

“We came out flat in the first half,” Littles said. “Hickory controlled the ball for a while. We got turnovers in the second half, and we started to play better.”

Quarterback Justin German got his second start Friday night, and he continued to show progress. He threw for 183 yards and rushed for 91. Less than a year ago, German was the starting quarterback on the JV team; now he is making plays for the varsity Bulldogs on Friday nights.

“I might be having great games, but it isn’t just me,” German said. “My offensive line is blocking, and my receivers are playing great. My coaches also do a good job of getting me prepared every week as well.”

Darran Butts knows better than anybody on King’s Fork’s offense how important it is for German to have good games. Everything opens up for the running back when the quarterback is having a good game.

“It’s very hard to stop Justin,” Butts said. “When he starts taking off and running and throwing the ball, it makes things easier for me and our receivers.”

Despite being 2-0, the Bulldogs know that it is a long process to getting where they need to be. They will continue to go to work every day and get better. Littles wants his team to be as fast as possible on offense and defense.

Defensively, the Bulldogs played fast like they said they wanted to before the game. Terrell Hart would have a game-high three interceptions for King’s Fork.

“Our defense did a good job at getting off the field,” Littles said. “Terrell has six interceptions in two games, which is insane. Offensively, we have to start fast. We always want to be as fast as we can go.”

King’s Fork wants to start executing earlier in games. They know as they play better teams on their schedule, they won’t wait for them to start playing well. Next for the Bulldogs is Indian River, so Littles wants his team to enjoy this win and embrace the challenge for each week.

“We do this for the kids to have a good time,” Littles said. “We want them to understand that they are growing as young men and productive citizens. They are all starting to see the success they can have with football.”

King’s Fork is back at home against Indian River at 7 p.m. Sept 16.
