Cub Scout Pack 73 hosted its annual community day event Aug. 30 at Magnolia United Methodist Church. Police officers, firefighters, family, friends and members of Boy Scout Troop 73 gathered for the pack’s Be A Scout Fun night.

Attendees participated in a variety of craft events including foam boat and balloon car racing and launching stomp rockets. Also, the firefighters and police officers in attendance showed the scouts their respective vehicles.

“The Cub Scouts always have a blast,” said Danny Boehning, Cub Scout Pack 73 cub master. “The goal is to have fun, and we want to enable that.”

The event has been hosted for the last several years and has fostered a bond between the pack and the community. Also, it has helped strengthened relationships between the younger scouts and the pack’s sister Boy Scout troop.

Boehning said the relationship between the two groups is essential, yet unique. Several packs in the area don’t have a sister troop as Boehning’s group does. That makes it difficult for scouts to adjust to new settings and members.

“It’s a continuity thing,” said Patrick Rouse, Boy Scout Troop 73 leader. “It’s about making relationships, mentoring and spreading knowledge to the younger scouts.
