After shutting out their first opponent 10-0 last week, the Nansemond River Lady Warriors field hockey team delivered more of the same on Monday as they defeated Deep Creek 6-0.

“This is a good start to our season,” coach Allison Dize said. “We don’t want to get off the gas pedal yet. There is a long road ahead of us.”

The Warriors were led by senior and team captain Ariana Samuel, who scored four goals. Sarah Rhiel led the team with two assists. Even though the Warriors didn’t allow a point, Samuel thought her team could have done better.

“We did well, but we could have done much better,” Samuel said. “We can get better at staying patient with our plays.”

Samuel also gives credit to her teammates for making it easier on her to get good opportunities to score.

Dize was proud of the way her team adjusted from the first half to the second. Having back-to-back shutouts is giving the Warriors more confidence as they start to move into the tougher part of their schedule.

“The girls made adjustments well in the game,” Dize said. “I would like us to clean up our passes more and we will be fine.”
