Emergency Communications received a call at 9:25 p.m. advising of the fire at the Massimo Zanetti facility, and the first units were on scene at 9:31 p.m., according to a city press release.

Battalion Chief William Kessinger said units found smoke in the coffee roasting facility and an active fire in one of the coffee roasting hoppers. The fire was contained to the hopper, its contents and the piping.

Approximately 70 to 80 employees were evacuated from the facility, according to the release. There were no injuries.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews removed the contents of the hopper to ensure the fire was extinguished once it was brought under control, after which the building was ventilated.

Responding units included Battalions 1 and 2, Engines 1, 3, 6 and 10, Ladders 3 and 5, EMS-1, Medics 3 and 6, Rescue 1, Reserve Engine 5, Rehab 6, the Fire Marshal, as well as Medic 32 from the Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad.

The fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
