ShoulderHill Entertainment, a production company co-founded by a Suffolk native, recently received an Emmy nomination for an event promotion video.

Steven and Danielle Addair, co-founders of ShoulderHill, executive produced a promotion video for The Climate Reality Project’s “24 Hours of Reality” event last year. They also handled video production for the event.

The Emmy nomination was an “unexpected benefit,” Steven said.

The Climate Reality Project, a global conservation initiative led by Al Gore, has hosted the “24 Hours of Reality” event since 2010. The 24-hour event features world leaders and cultural figures who discuss carbon pollution and ways to combat it. In years past, more than 70 countries have tuned in to the live broadcast.

Last year’s event occurred on the day of the Paris terrorist attacks in November. The event, which was hosted at the Champs de Mars, in front of the Eiffel Tower, was about a mile from the attacks.

The show was forced to cancel just six hours in, according to Danielle Addair.

“We didn’t really know what was going on,” she said.

The show was postponed to the following month and was minimized to a two-hour live broadcast.

Beginning in May of 2005, ShoulderHill was inspired by the couple’s passion for video production and special effects. The name of the company derived from the street Steven Addair grew up on — Shoulders Hill Road in North Suffolk.

Steven Addair, a 1988 graduate of John Yeates High School and Old Dominion University, and his wife felt it was necessary to move to New York to allow the company to grow.

“The entertainment industry is challenging. It is an ever changing model,” Danielle Addair said. “You either evolve or you’re irrelevant.”

However, without any ties to the industry, starting up and maintaining ShoulderHill proved to be challenging. But now more than 10 years in, the couple feels the challenges have made them “not take things for granted.”

The company’s expertise encompasses all forms of entertainment and digital media to include visual effects, feature films, music and television shows.

“As long as it has a good story, we enjoy doing it,” Steven said.

Steven said there are many exciting projects in the works for the company. However, with all ShoulderHill has accomplished to date, he hopes to keep a two-fold perspective.

“We don’t want to get too comfortable in the good moments and we don’t want to get too down in the bad moments,” he said.
