O’Hara graduates

Ryan O’Hara was among the 236 men who graduated on May 8 at commencement exercises marking the end of the 241st academic year at Hampden-Sydney College.

O’Hara graduated with a Bachelor of Science in computer science. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas V. O’Hara Jr., of Suffolk.

 

Harris graduates

Ruby Harris, of Suffolk, graduated from Troy University during Term 4 of the 2015-2016 academic year.

Harris attended Troy Online and graduated with the Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Education.

 

Short graduates

Sarah A. Short, of Golden Valley, Minn., was one of 504 seniors who graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, May 22, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree at the college’s 195th commencement. Internet pioneer and author Arianna Huffington was the guest speaker.

Short, who majored in global studies, attended Breck School and is the daughter of Kathleen Rosenfield, of Golden Valley, Minn., and Frederick Short, of Suffolk.

 

Zoudlik graduates

Park University’s Naval Support Activity Mid-South Millington (Tenn.) Campus Center held its commencement ceremony on May 20 at the Pat Thompson Recreation Center on the NSA Millington base.

The University had 81 students eligible to participate in the ceremony — 45 students received a bachelor’s degree and 36 students received an associate degree.

Among the graduates was Stephen Edward Zoudlik, a criminal justice administration/law enforcement major, of Suffolk. He graduated summa cum laude.

 

Horsley makes Dean’s List

Worcester Polytechnic Institute has announced that Coleman Horsley, of Suffolk, a member of the class of 2016 majoring in civil engineering, was named to the university’s Dean’s List for academic excellence for the spring 2016 semester.

A total of 1,292 undergraduate students achieved the criteria required for WPI’s spring 2016 Dean’s List. The criteria for the WPI Dean’s List differ from that of most other universities, as WPI does not compute a grade point average. Instead, WPI defines the Dean’s List by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.

 

Buchanan makes Dean’s List

Toby Buchanan, of Suffolk, made the Dean’s List for the spring 2016 semester at Louisburg College. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must have completed at least 12 or more hours of college credit in a given semester and have a semester grade point average between 3.5 and 4.0.

 

Fleury makes Dean’s List

Paul Fleury, a senior business administration major from Suffolk, was among approximately 890 Bob Jones University students named to the spring 2016 Dean’s List. The Dean’s List recognizes students who earn a 3.0 to 3.74 grade point average during the semester.

 

Local students make Dean’s List

Two Suffolk students were named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester of the 2015-2016 academic year at Hampden-Sydney College.

To earn this distinction, students must achieve at least a 3.3 semester grade point average out of a possible 4.0.

• Aaron R. Dawley is the son of Mr. Russell and Mrs. Erika Dawley.
• Michael T. Lepore is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Michael A. Lepore Jr.

 

JMU announces President’s, Dean’s lists

James Madison University has announced the following Suffolk students made the President’s List for the spring 2016 semester. Students who earn President’s List honors must carry at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a grade point average of 3.9 or above.

• Courtney Brown, who is majoring in health sciences.
• Preston Firnstahl, who is majoring in biology.
• Chasby Hanger, who is majoring in interdisciplinary liberal studies.
