A Suffolk man is dead following a Friday shooting in Newport News, according to a press release from the Newport News Police Department.

Charles Levar Sharpe, 34, of the 1000 block of Litton Lane, died Monday morning at the hospital, according to the press release.

About 9:32 p.m. on Friday, police communications in Newport News received a call reporting gunshots heard in the area of the 1100 block of Garden Drive, according to the press release. Officers located Sharpe lying on the ground, apparently suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital.

There is no suspect information available, according to the release.
