Cedar Point Country Club is sponsoring the debut Daniel Zasada Memorial Golf and Tennis Event, a fundraiser to benefit the Western Tidewater Free Clinic, next week.

The public is invited to participate in golf and tennis outings, beginning at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. April 21 respectively at Cedar Point, 8056 Clubhouse Drive. Zasada, the son of club members, died from addiction issues in January 2015.

“The purpose of the fundraiser is to raise awareness of Western Tidewater Free Clinic, which makes medical and dental services available to people who can’t afford the services or might otherwise fall through the cracks,” said Jan Talian, tennis pro at Cedar Point. “We welcome people to come out and give of their time or donations … to support a local charity that provides services so needed in our local community.”

The Western Tidewater Free Clinic provides non-emergency health services to residents of Suffolk, Franklin, and Isle of Wight and Southampton counties who might not otherwise be able to afford it.

There are multiple levels of participation and support available, ranging from playing in a round-robin tennis match or on a golf team to sponsoring a beverage station, golf hole or tennis court, Talian said. Participants will also be served lunch, be eligible for door prizes and have the opportunity to bid in a silent auction.

The cost for a round of golf is $125 for single, $500 for a foursome, and tennis is $40 per player. The sponsorships range from $200 to $350.

Players and sponsors can register by calling and stopping by the pro shop, at 238-2372. People are also welcome to make donations. All checks should be made payable to Cedar Point Country Club.
