Mary Elizabeth Wilson

Mary Elizabeth Wilson, 79, affectionately known as “Pig,” entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at her residence. She was born on Feb. 6, 1937, in Suffolk, to the late Claudia Moore Riddick and John Riddick.

Mary was a single mom of five. She worked at National Lining Service in Norfolk for years to provide for her children. She also worked at Planters Peanuts and Gold Kist until her health failed.

She was a faithful member of New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries Church. A true woman of God, Mary was not only a mother to her children; she was a foster mother to 22 foster children.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Haskel Wilson Sr., son, James Jones; and two sisters, Carol Flood and Ada Lee.

Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory, three daughters, Jacqueline Boone and Gloria Wilson, both of Suffolk, and Lila Colbert, of Hampton; three sons, Haskel Wilson Jr. and Bruce Everett, both of Suffolk, and Samuel Harper, of Courtland; brother, John Riddick, of Suffolk; sister, Christine Riddick, of New York; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Ms. Wilson’s visitation will take place from noon to 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 14, 2016, at the funeral home. A home going service will take place at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries Church, and she will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
