Send in your favorite hole of golf

There have been many things written about the game of golf. There are historic and funny sayings that talk down the game as a great way to ruin a walk.
There are other sayings that call cemeteries and golf courses big wastes of land.
I, for one, completely disagree. Golf, to me, is a game I will always play, never win and learn interesting combinations of curse words in the process.
Since moving to Suffolk in early July, I have had the luxury of playing two area golf courses, and in those two rounds of golf, played under beautiful Virginia skies, I have reinforced my belief that I am not very good.
With that said, I enjoy proving that to myself as often as possible.
Over the past few weeks, you have seen ads in our newspaper promoting a special section coming at the end of this month called the Signature Holes of Hampton Roads.
This section is an effort on our part to showcase some of the more beautiful, difficult and swear-word-inducing holes in Suffolk and surrounding areas.
And, as part of putting this section together, it would be interesting to see what you feel is the most difficult hole, or the most beautiful golf hole in the area. Would it be No. 18 at Sleepy Hole or would it be No. 14 at Nansemond River?
You tell us.
Our sports editor, Andrew Giermak, is currently working with area golf professionals in compiling the list of 18 holes, but would appreciate your suggestions.
Before Friday, Sept. 18, simply e-mail Andrew at andrew.giermak@suffolknewsherald.com letting him know your suggestions.
Your input may help us compile the best 18 holes of golf to play in an area that is so rich in golf beauty.
And, to the course managers at the unnamed golf course I played at Saturday, I apologize for the downed tree limbs on the 15th fairway. I guess the saying that trees are 90 percent air just isn’t true.
