Player of the Week

Following are this week’s Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week nominees:

  • Patrick Driggers, sophomore for Suffolk Christian Academy basketball: When a teammate was injured in the conference tournament quarterfinals on Feb. 19, he took on an expanded role and was a bright spot for the No. 6 Knights. Though they lost to No. 3 Friends School 61-55 in overtime, he led the Knights with 14 points, played strong defense and hit the three-pointer that sent the game to overtime.
  • Brandeé Johnson, senior for Nansemond River High School track and field: During Saturday’s Group 5A state indoor track and field championships, she claimed titles in the long jump (18-feet, 9.75-inches), the 55-meter hurdles (7.83 seconds), the 55-meter dash (7.07 seconds) and the 500-meter dash (1:16.77). The distance in the long jump and the time in the 55 hurdles were personal records.
