A 3-year-old boy is recovering from a gunshot wound he suffered Wednesday evening in what officials are calling an accidental shooting.

The incident occurred at 7:34 p.m. in the 200 block of Jonathans Way, according to a press release from city spokeswoman Diana Klink.

The boy was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, Klink stated.

She said no further details were available, including whether the boy accidentally shot himself or whether someone else shot the gun.

“The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available at this time,” she wrote.
